Punjab University student killed in shooting incident on campus
A student was killed on Thursday in a shooting incident after unidentified individuals opened fire at the Punjab University.
The tragic incident prompted a large number of students to stage protests on Canal Road, Barkat Market and nearby roads.
According to media reports, a student organization allegedly attacked the university’s administration block, vandalised property and carried out indiscriminate firing after the shooting.
The victim, identified as Rana Ammar Akhter, a Gender Studies student from Kasur, sustained severe injuries and was rushed to Sheikh Zayed Hospital, where he succumbed to his wounds during treatment.
The protests caused severe traffic congestion at Barkat Market, Ferozepur Road, Wahdat Road, and Bhakkewala Mor as traffic wardens struggled to provide alternate routes for commuters.

This incident follows a recent arrangement of musical and recreational programmes by student organisation on the university campus, activities previously considered taboo due to the influence of a religious student group that opposed such events.
Meanwhile, a Punjab University spokesperson denied that the shooting occurred on campus, accusing a specific student organisation of spreading rumours and false information.
A spokesperson for the Sheikh Zayed Hospital confirmed that the student, aged 22, had been struck by three bullets in the chest, stomach, and leg.
“The body was handed over to the police after medico-legal formalities and has been shifted to the morgue for a postmortem,” the hospital spokesperson said.
